Fashionista of the Week: Diarra

Meet our fashionista of the week, Diarra! Through a mix of fun accessories, layers, and bright bursts of color, Diarra puts together adorable outfits. This week was one of the hottest weeks of the year so far, so check out what Diarra put together for the weather!

I love Diarra's use of colors. On Monday, the bright yellow shorts pop in the otherwise neutral outfit, as do the shoes on Tuesday! I absolutely love the mix of color she wore on Wednesday. Pink and yellow go really well together, especially with a floral print and a more textured vest. On Friday, I gotta love the romper! (that might be foreshadowing for a future post...) I especially love that she paired the romper with a blazer, which mixes fun and girly with something a little more serious. What I think makes Diarra's outfits great are her finishing touches. The necklace she wears on Monday and Friday seems simple, but it really adds to the overall look. I also love that she's wearing different shoes everyday! Especially in the summer, it's great to have lots of sandals so that you can find the shoes that perfectly fit the look of the outfit, kind of like finding the perfect word to use in a poem. Overall, Diarra's outfits are sweet, put-together, and totally fun! Leave a comment with your favorite piece!

Vintage Handbags

Hey guys! So much thanks to her aunt, my friend C has this awesome collection of vintage designer handbags! Just wanted to share them with you!

The one on the left is Coach. I'm personally not a fan of the current coach collections, with the C's covering every inch of the bags, but I LOVE old coach leather. The old bags are made so well!
The bag on the right is Louis Vuitton.
Another Coach sling! C actually got this one at the salvation army. Good thrift stores are the best because they have so much inventory coming in and out that they sometimes miss important labels like... Coach! So you can get great quality products at low prices. One thing that I love about both this bag and the Coach one in the first picture is the button. You don't have to yank to get the bag open - the gold button is pulled toward you, and it opens! Like magic!

Ok, now brace yourselves *game show music*:

Front

Back

Duh-duh-duh-duh! Chanel! I am beyond in love with this bag. I love the long sling style, and the gold chain. The best part is the inside, because this bag is like a little fashionable box. You know how annoying it is when you have a bag with a little zipper and a big pouch, and you're just fishing for what you're looking for for hours? This bag solves everything, because it has a wide mouth for a smaller inside. It's the perfect size to fit a wallet, and any other necessities. C watch out, this might go missing...

So there you go! Bags like these come in all shapes and sizes, and the old ones have a certain level of charm and quality that I feel I don't come across as often in today's collections. If you find one in good condition that you love, give it a try! Bags can last a really long time if good care is taken, so find one that you love and make it a great accessory!

Store to Shop: Century 21

Hello readers! Everyone has that store that they know they can always find everything they need at, and for me, that's Century 21. Located in Manhattan, Morristown, and a few other locations, Century sells everything from juniors clothing to shoes to bathing suits to housing stuff to handbags to designer clothing (hellooo Marc Jacobs!). And get this: it's all discounted! Heaven much? I was going to take pictures of my entire Century 21 adventure, but I didn't know if I could get sued for that.. so here are just a few of my favorite buys of the day, which double as a summer preview!

I walked past this at first. And then I was like, wait, this might work. Sometimes things look a lot different on than they do off, so if you see something with any potential, always try it on! What do you have to lose? I especially like how this can be a simple play dress, or with the right accessories, it can be dressed up a bit.

I think this shirt really shows off what's hot this summer - lace, thin materials, and floral. There was so much lace there, and at least 20 other shirts that were similar stylistically to this one. I love it because it's not only cute, but the flowy style is so comfortable! It's hard to see in the picture, but there are buttons down the center, and the bottom layer has an extra ruffle. Plus I love the uneven hem :) There were soo many dresses with uneven hems!

I love these Keds because they are quiet and loud at the same time. The shoes have beige, lime green, hot pink, and bright orange, but all in moderation so the shoes are springy but not overwhelming. Plus, the insides are terry cloth!

Basically, I can't wait to wear all my new outfits! I have now updated my wardrobe with simple summer dresses, nicer dresses for graduation parties, and maybe even one for graduation itself... ;]

Definitely take a day to sift through the mounds of merchandise at Century 21. You're bound to find something to fit your taste!

Take a Break

AP season! Nothing is more wonderful than exhaustion, anxiety, anticipation, and the blissful feeling of being overwhelmed! Guys, it's BEAUTIFUL outside. Put on a cute pair of shorts, a loose fitting boyfriend tee for this hot heat, and colorful sandals and TAKE A BREAK! Put down the Barron's, Princeton Review, or whatever book you are holding right now...walk away from the mound of Lit term flashcards...turn off your TI89! Go outside, rock an adorable outfit, and enjoy the weather. Take a Starbucks break for an hour or two and get back to studying when you feel relaxed. Good luck to all and I hope this "pick me up advice" was helpful to some.
