Fedoras, Part 2!

As the lovely Erin blogged, Fedoras are in this spring. You can definitely throw one on almost everyday with almost any outfit -- but you can also dress up your fedora! I got this idea from the blog What I Wore (definitely check it out)! Use waist belts (solid or print), or handkerchiefs or scarves to wrap around your fedora. Play around with the look and have fun! You only need to buy one hat, but you can wear it so many different ways!

Me in my fedora. The hat is solid brown, but the braided black belt gives it a whole new look!

Fashionista of the Week: Gabrielle

Meet our fashionista of the week, Gabrielle! Her artsy look uses lots of simple pieces, like flowery headbands, hats, bold jewelry (check out the different necklaces each day!), funky tights, and simple yet stylish boots. Notice that it's not bright colors that make the outfits, but the way she layers the pieces together! My favorite pieces are the polka-dot skirt on Wednesday, and the glammed up purple shorts on Friday. Leave comments with your favorites!

Fedoras

The fedora: a wonderful trend! Fedoras are so in and are making a comeback this spring! These hats can be thrown on throughout the spring and summer as a fun accessory to any outfit. My favorite look to wear with a fedora: a floral sun dress and converse...or even cute sandals. Having a lazy day? A simple boyfriend v-neck tee and a pair of light-washed and distressed jeans will go perfectly with a pretty fedora. Buy a few small light scarves to wrap around these hats too! Don't be afraid to make a statement with this trendy style!

I just bought this cute BDG Linen Fedora in brown from Urban Outfitters!

First and foremost, an apology. This feature is weeks late, but we are up and going with it again. So without further ado...

Meet Emily, one of WOHS' most unique fashionistas! Her outfits always look cute. Her look is defined by lots of layers and unique pieces, like big headbands (see Friday), lots of color (particularly purple), and glitz! There is always something shiny or sparkly on a piece of Emily's outfit. Her look is both fun and sophisticated. Check out her outfits this week!

The Look: Headbands!

Hey fashion lovers!

A few weeks ago, while getting ready to go out with my friend C, i'll admit: my outfit wasn't my best. It was a weekend, so I was in leggings and a tee, and before leaving, I decided to put on a bright blue bow headband. I turned to my friend C and said, "you see, you can always wear a headband, no matter how bad your outfit looks. Because if you draw enough attention to your face with a pretty headband, no one will look at your outfit!" So that is my fashion advice of today.

The big bow headbands were shown in Marc Jacobs' fall show this year, and have since sifted down to affordable fashion hot-spots. The blue bow headband mentioned above is from Urban Outfitters, but it looks much like the headband below, from the Marc Jacobs show. Always check the sale bins at Urban - almost without fail, they have headbands marked down for $5!

Another reason for the recent popularity of headbands is because of the hit CW tv show Gossip Girl! For Blair Waldorf, a main character on the show, the headband is her signature fashion piece. She wears all styles, from flashy and oversized, to neat and put-together.

Wear a headband to add a great accessory to any outfit. Try big, small, solid, and multicolor. Get a headband that matches your eye color, or a pretty earring you already own, to bring out other colors on your face!

Hit or Miss?

I'm having a lot of trouble deciding whether this bathing suit is totally cute or not! Right now I'm leaning towards a little too much detail and frill. What do you think? Is this a fashion hit or miss? Post your vote under comments!

Pastel Flannels

Flannels are a fashion obsession without a doubt. On a lazy day, a flannel and jeans are all you need to look stylish and comfy. I know all of you are worrying how you're going to survive spring, and even summer, without these flirty tops. Change it up and make your flannels versatile with pastel colors! Pair your flannel with skinnies, boyfriend jeans, leggings, or shorts for the perfect relaxed and laid-back look. Check out BP. Nordstrom for some of my favorite flannel looks for spring!

Alice in Wonderland in Real Life!

Loved the movie? Or did you just love the colors? Now some of those fantastical colors available from O.P.I. for your nails!

From top left to bottom right: Absolutely Alice, Thanks so Muchness, Off With Her Red!, and Mad as a Hatter.

I'm currently wearing Absolutely Alice - soo cool! I love the glitter and the gold specks mixed with blue. Mad as a Hatter is also awesome - purple is the primary color but there are little specks of at least five other colors in the polish!

Don't just leave the world of Alice behind when you leave the movie theater - wear it every day!

Jeggings

So you've already worn leggings twice this week. But I mean, you want to be comfortable! What's the harm in wearing another pair?
Well, what if you could wear leggings, but no one else would know? What if you could be in the comfort of leggings all day, while your appearance showed a tapered pair of jeans?
"Jeggings," as the new fashion item is coined, is a mashup of jeans and leggings. They have the look of a textured denim, but the feel and comfort of leggings.

Everyone can have at least one pair of these. You can find them as inexpensive as $12.99 from Target, as shown above.

This is a more expensive pair - $68.00 at Free People. If you have a need for jeggings, don't be afraid to splurge!

Remember - look great, but feel great too!

The Definition of Beauty

The other day when I was watching television I saw a commercial for Oprah's show today. After I saw Jessica Simpson was going to be Oprah's guest, I set a recording on my DVR and was really eager to watch. The episode was called "Beauty Around the World," and focused on what women around the world view as beautiful.

Jessica Simpson was extremely inspirational! She discussed a picture snapped by the paparazzi of her that started a tabloid frenzy calling her "fat". Although Jessica tried to ignore the comments about her 10 lb. weight gain, the pressure began to eat away at her. She is only a size 4! Honestly, our warped view of beauty is getting the best of a lot of women, and even men.

What's even crazier than magazines obsessing over Simpson's weight is the current boom in plastic surgery happening in China! Some Chinese women are "going under the knife" to surgically reshape their eyelids to look more western. These women are desperate to get surgery for this modern trend that they believe is "perfection".

I understand that everyone wants to be beautiful, but the definition of beauty should be defined by you, not by anyone else. Danielle and I have been really excited to share our fashion obsession with you, but underneath all the style we throw at you make sure you stay who you are! Be influenced in a positive way, don't try to change yourself to fit ridiculous standards! Some may think it's cliche, but be yourself! :)

Barney's Warehouse Sale!

Who doesn't want a few designer items in their closet? Having a few runway buddies around is ideally fantastic, if only the prices weren't so high. That's what the annual Barney's Warehouse Sale is good for -- getting designer buys at everyday prices! This year's sale ended on February 28th, but this is good to keep in mind for next year!

The scene is like something out of Mean Girls when the high schoolers turn into animals, but it's all worth it for a good find. From shoes, to handbags, to jeans, to dresses, to accessories, to tops, you can find anything.

Just to share my finds: I almost bought a Marc Jacobs prom dress - literally marked down from $600 to $110.. amazing! Unfortunately it was a size too big. But I did find the awesome Marc Jacobs shirt pictured below! (If you haven't already guessed, Marc Jacobs is my favorite!) It was only $12, and it's beyond comfy. It's super versatile too, because it can be worn as a long tee/dress over leggings, or just as a top with jeans.

In truth, there is something for everyone in the warehouse, as long as you have the patience to look. It's a fantastic opportunity for a student, or any fashionista on a low budget, to pick up some amazing pieces to add to your wardrobe!

The warehouse is on 17th Street between 7th and 8th avenue. See you there next February!

April Showers Bring May Flowers...Even Though It's March

Ahh, spring! You know what that means! Floral prints! I'm itching to get out of my winter layers and into something that reminds me of sunny weather. Floral prints are the perfect way to brighten up your day.

I am in love with this Frenchi Floral Print Tank Dress I found at BP. Nordstrom.

Pair this dress with a cute braided leather belt or an open cardigan to accessorize your look.

Not ready to plunge head first into the warm weather? Wear this trendy look and still stay toasty! This unusual floral print top is the perfect way to stay stylish without going crazy in the chilly weather that is haunting us. Throw a boyfriend cardigan on with skinny jeans and a great pair of winter boots...you'll be good to go!

Liked the looks shown in this post? Check out BP. Nordstrom for more awesome ways to rock the floral trend this upcoming season.
