Fashionista of the Week

Hey all! Sorry the formatting is a little messy on this post -- still getting used to blogging! It's a learning process.

This is Chidere, our first fashionista of the week! This feature will be released every Friday, with a new fashionista from WO High School. There is a short interview accompanying these pics, so stay tuned to read about Chidere's fashion inspirations!

MONDAY
Chidere said Rhianna inspired these leggings! Here, she mixes prints and colors, by contrasting the pink with the yellow, the light top with the dark bottoms, and the solid shirt with the patterned leggings and scarf. It's hard to see in the photo, but her glasses are leopard print!

TUESDAY
Waist belt, cardigan, print leggings, and leather boots -- a very pulled together look with a funky twist.

WEDNESDAY
Inside out, off the shoulder sweatshirt. A great was to turn an old item into something new! This outfit is really fun and reminiscent of the 80's.
THURSDAY
So many cool looks in this outfit! The pink shirt makes the outfit pop in contrast to the other neutral pieces. Layered necklaces are hot right now, as are jeans and "jeggings" with rips across. The shoes are an awesome boyish look - try them new or used. My favorite is Hamlet's Vintage (www.hamletsvintage.com), a store in the city with an amazing shoe collection.

Snow day Friday, so no picture! Thanks Chidere, and keep up the awesome style!

Rain Boot Obsession

Staying in on snowy or rainy days and snuggling up on the couch is always fun to do, but when we must go out in this dreaded weather stomping around in slush and puddles are not fun for your feet. With the weather all over the place lately, we all need something to keep our toes dry and warm. Rain boots are an essential to every shoe collection! Go simple with black, pick a fun bright color like these lime green Hunter boots, or rock a fun printed rain boot. Whatever style you choose, rain boots are the perfect remedy for the bad weather blues.

It's All About Putty

There are so many nail polish colors out there, but with an endless array of colors to choose from, where will fashion lead us next? The past few months dark purple, navy, and even metallic nails have been dominating the beauty world. Now putty is taking over. Taupe is a great neutral color for nails that will go with any outfit as the warmer months arrive. A personal favorite is to pick a more purple-based putty taupe. It adds a little flavor to your nails. So, next time you reach for your beloved navy blue nail polish, think twice and play with putty!

Go-To Outfits: Sweatshirts!

Some may think of the sweatshirt as an item to throw on for comfort or when cold, but sweatshirts are now sold in a variety of colors, and are a great item to wear out! Don't feel like putting together a creative or fun outfit at 6:30 in the morning before school? Having a couple of brightly colored sweatshirts in your wardrobe are a great go-to. Paired with jeans, the color burst will make the outfit really fun, no matter how simple!

Here are some of my favs:

For a thinner sweatshirt, check out uniqlo. They sell looks for both men and women for $15 - $20. While you're there, pick up other solid colorful pieces as well, like leggings, sweaters, and v-necks.

For a thicker sweatshirt, try American Apparel. Their pieces are more expensive, at around $40, but all products are manufactured in our country.

So next time you have a day when you want to wear something cute but comfy, make sure you have a vivid sweatshirt around to boost your outfit! It will lift your mood :]

Nautical Crazy!

One fashion trend that comes around every spring in new ways is the nautical trend. Anchor jewelry, blue and red stripes, and brass details are just a few fun tips to play up this style.

My favorite way to pull of this look is tucking a ruffled white shirt into a wide waistband denim skirt with a full, flouncy shape.

For the colder days leading into spring a navy over sized blazer with a striped tee underneath, skinny jeans, and flats can also do the trick.

There are so many ways to put together a cute outfit that is sailor-ready! Take a look some of these featured items! Enjoy.

Check it out: Silver Cocoon

No adorable outfit is complete without the perfect accessories, especially jewelry. A new great find is Silver Cocoon. This website is filled with the cutest statement jewelry that is fun, colorful, and definitely original.

Go explore! Silver Spoon

The Look: "Eskimo" Hats

You know you want one. You've seen them sold by street venders, in stores, and you have at least one friend who wears one. But the concern is, how do I wear it? Could I pull that off? Check out these four ways to rock an "eskimo" hat, from staying warm to looking cool.

The classic look. Wear it with the ears flopped down, and the fuzz on the sides tucked under. This will definitely keep you warm, unless it's windy -- then the ear flaps might go flying!

Okay, it looks a little weird. But you will be very warm. Very. If it's really that cold out, people won't give you looks -- they'll understand.

This look is for the coolsters. It looks really good, but it might only cover half of your ears. Your pick. To do this you just clip in the back!

The fuzz on the sides can be worn up or down. This is what it looks like if you choose to wear them folded up.

So there you go! The very versatile hat. If you're thinking of going to college in a cold climate, I would highly suggest purchasing one before they run out for the season. You can find them for about $10, and the hats are sold in both solid colors and prints. Make sure you compare a few before you purchase, because some have thicker fur than others. Stay warm!

The Look: Zippers

A new trend this year for winter or spring is zippers. Zippers are totally fun and funky! Zipper metal is being turned into jewelry, both casual and elegant, as well as items of clothing. Check these pieces out:

These pieces are by Kate Cusack, a NYC zipper jewelry designer. The first picture is more casual, where just the pulleys are used to create design. Bracelets, like bangles, and necklaces similar to these can also be found at pylones. The second is using the metal of the zipper to create a very elegant design.
Zippers are also found in clothing items, like on this shirt by Poof Apparel:

Zippers are particularly good to help accentuate curves, but also great for all people who are looking to bring an eclectic spin into their everyday outfits.

Welcome

Hey guys!

Welcome to our very first post! Danielle and I are really excited about starting this fashion blog, but you are probably wondering why it began. We took it upon ourselves to create a blog that mixes fashion and writing, two things we both love. On this site you can find everything from style tips to new trends that we think will add flavor to your wardrobe. This will be a fashion adventure through the eyes of two teenage girls that have a passion for fashion! We hope you enjoy.
